Concerned about Chinese control over the Internet, Zuckerberg called on the UK to be proactive
Mark Zuckerberg is worried about the way China is trying to control the Internet.  According to the founder of Facebook, the European Union (EU) needs to play a more positive role in creating a certain global benchmark for technology regulators.  Otherwise, gradually many countries will be forced to follow the Chinese model.

 In a video conference with EU Commissioner Thierry Breton, Zuckerberg said: "I think a lot of countries are now looking at China and saying that the model might work.  Maybe it will give more control to our government.  The founder of Facebook adds that the problem with the Beijing model is that as long as the wheel of society continues to roll, it will continue to do so, regardless of human rights.
 Zuckerberg thinks there is a danger here.  "It's very dangerous," he said.  The way the Chinese model is spreading in different countries is really alarming.  To counter this trend, he thinks, the best antidote is to create a transparent regulatory structure from Western democracies that will be a beacon to the world.  According to Zuckerberg, when Europe makes a policy, it becomes a measure to the whole world.
 On the other hand, according to Breton, head of the European Union's technology policy division, large corporations like Facebook should maintain certain policies and values.  That said, if you want proper control, you have to have certain values.  Europe has those values.  He points out that Facebook occasionally falls short of this standard.  Whether it is to control illegal or bogus posts or to pay proper taxes.
